IPP: input pre-processor

Logo

The IPP input pre-processor extends the capabilities of the DOS command line processor. It maintains a stack of recent commands and allows you to browse through this stack, avoiding the need to retype complex commands. IPP also allows you to pick up text from the screen with the mouse and add that text to the command line. And IPP gives you the possibility to add user defined commands to the set of standard DOS commands.

IPP is written in assembler code and you can download both the executable program and the source code from this page. Check here for the general conditions of use for my software,

Although you can use IPP under Windows (where it modifies the behavior of the MS-DOS box), it probably makes little sense to do so. I know for sure that IPP will work correctly in a 16-bit Windows environment, but I have never tried it out under 32-bit Windows.

The program is not self-installing, so you have to do some work yourself. Start by downloading the ZIP files containing the program and (optionally) the assembler source code to a temporary directory, say C:\temp. Next unzip the files into this directory and delete the original ZIP files.

Move the files ipp.com, ipp.txt, rstmouse.com and (optionally) ipp.asm to a convenient directory, for instance C:\ipp. Add a line to your C:\autoexec.bat file with the text: lh c:\ipp\ipp.com. And make sure that directory C:\ipp is included in the search path in the C:\autoexec.bat file.

After rebooting your computer IPP will automatically be activated.
