The operation of Kill'em is based on window names. The name of a browser pop up window typically consists of two parts: the web page title and the browser name. Kill'em uses the second part of the name to identify a window as a browser window, and then tests the first part against a set of rules to work out what it should do with the window: leave it on the screen or kill it. If there is no suitable rule the program will ask you what to do, at which time you can create a new rule if you want to. Once you have created a number of rules, you can merge individual rules into group rules. Unlike an individual rule, which acts on an exact name match, a group rule acts on a whole range of window names. The used window name based approach keeps the processor load on your computer very small, but is unfortunately not 100% fool-proof. Therefore Kill'em has a number of built in safeguards to prevent the creation of potentially risky rules as much as possible. Kill'em has been tried out with Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer, and works with both. It does however not work with browsers like Opera, which use a different organisation and naming strategy for their windows. Installing the program is easy. Just download the installer program from this page and execute it.
