TalkieTones is a program to communicate with text phones. But... it only knows about the Dutch text phone system, which to my knowledge is unique in the world. So don't try to use it to communicate with someone outside The Netherlands, unless you are certain that they have a compatible text phone.

Check here for the general conditions of use for my software, and see the Legalities... option in the program's Help menu for more details.

TalkieTones' main features are: text communication in two directions, or in one direction only with voice communication in the other direction; make outgoing calls, get alerted for and receive incoming calls, or connect to an existing call; use the built-in phone book to dial numbers.

TalkieTones requires that you have a suitable modem installed in your computer. Most of today's analog modems are voice modems and can be used with TalkieTones. ISDN and ADSL modems work in a different way and for as far as I know they are not suitable.

Installing the program is a piece of cake. Just download the installer program from this page and run it. Then start TalkieTones to see if your modem is suitable; the program will not start if it does not find a suitable modem.

known problems: Receiving text places a heavy burden on your modem, and with some modems you may find that the received text is corrupted beyond recognition. This is not caused by the TalkieTones program, but by the modem's limitations. Sending text will work fine with almost all modems, albeit that the send speed is slower than that of a regular text phone. This modem list reflects some experiences of other people.

Alas, I have not yet been able to make TalkieTones work properly under Windows XP. I'm interested to hear your experiences if you have succeeded in this. One user reported that disabling the "wait for dialtone" option in the Windows modem settings improved things for him.

If you download and try the program, please send me an email with the type of modem that you use and your experiences. I will then add the information to the list with tested modems. Even if your modem is already in the list your experiences are still valuable.
