Talkietones: modems Klik hier voor de Nederlandse versie   TalkieTones requires that your modem can send and receive DTMF tones, associated with the phone keys 0 to 9, # and *. These days most analog modems can do this, but as far as I know this is not the case for ISDN and ADSL modems. To receive text from a text phone, the modem must be able to detect incoming tones at a rate of just over 10 tones per second. This places a heavy burden on the modem. Or worse, if you have a so called 'soft' modem it places a heavy burden on the computer itself. If modem or computer can not keep track of incoming tones at this rate then the received text will be corrupted, possibly beyond recognition. The following list is based on the experiences of users with some modems, when used in combination with TalkieTones. There is however no guarantee that the same type of modem will give the same results when used in a different computer, or with a different driver or firmware. In particular for 'soft' modems the type and speed of the computer's processor can be expected to make a difference. Move the mouse cursor over the icons in the list to see their meaning.
