TAN manager

Logo

The TAN manager is only of interest if you have an account with the Dutch Postbank and use their Girotel package, utilizing transaction numbers (TAN) to verify that you really are who you say you are. The TAN manager encrypts these numbers and stores them in a more elaborate way than the sheet of paper that the Postbank provides you with. The user interface is in Dutch.

This program was written in Borland C++ and it requires some Borland DLL files, that can also be downloaded from this page. Check here for the general conditions of use for my software, and see the program's Info... option for more details.

The program is not self-installing, so you have to do some work yourself. Start by downloading the ZIP files containing the program and the Borland DLL files to a temporary directory, say C:\temp. Next unzip both files into this directory and delete the two original ZIP files. From here on the procedure becomes slightly operating system dependent.

Under a 16-bit Windows version (Windows 3.1, 3.11) move the files tan.exe, bids402.dll, owl202.dll and bc402rtl.dll to a convenient directory, for instance C:\bcpp16.

In the program manager create a new program (pointing to C:\bcpp16\tan.exe) in an appropriate program group (for instance in group Accessories). Name this program something like TAN manager.

Under a 32-bit Windows version (Windows 95, 98, NT) move the files tan.exe, bids402.dll, owl202.dll and bc402rtl.dll to a convenient directory, for instance C:\Program Files\BCPP16.

In the start menu create a new shortcut (pointing to C:\Program Files\BCPP16\tan.exe) in an appropriate folder (for instance in folder Accessories). Name this shortcut something like TAN manager.

The operation of the TAN manager is pretty much self-explaining. Once you have filled in your password you can enter a new TAN list, look up one of the numbers from the current list, or change the password.

The initial password is blank. You can leave this unchanged if you like, but of course then everybody has access to your TAN list. Not a good idea!
