After I had
written the 'GIF file builder'
program I needed a GIF image viewer to use in conjunction with this
program. But unfortunately most image viewers do not support dynamic
GIF images, which are the main area of use for the GIF file builder.
After some web
browsing I came across IrfanView, an image viewer that supports a
large number of image formats (including some types of embedded
images, like the icons in program files). And it supports dynamic GIF
images, the main feature I was looking for.

But
the program goes a lot further than a simple image viewer. Very
useful is the option to convert a large number of images from one
graphic format to an other in a single operation. Also handy is the
possibility to view and browse through all images in a directory,
using the built-in directory browser. The program has TWAIN support
for scanners and digital camera's and can be used to make screen shots.
All in all
IrfanView is an excellent program for the maintenance of image
collections. I currently use it as my main tool for handling images.
If you are
interested, visit the IrfanView
web site. The program is freeware and it can be downloaded from there. |
